Dear Future Willow Intern,

Hi! My name is Olivia. I am the current intern here at Willow. I’m going to tell you about the ups, downs and all of the tricks of being a Willow intern.

First and foremost, there’s going to be work you don’t want to do. But hey, that’s true with any internship. You’re going to have to stock the snacks, run things to clients and take out the recycling.

But in the grand scheme of things, those tasks are such a small part of your time at Willow. I have had the pleasure of working with an amazing team and some incredible clients. Willow has given me the opportunity to explore all aspects of an agency while gaining valuable knowledge and relationships. I have had the opportunity to work on projects and be a part of any and all client meetings.

If you intern at Willow, here is what you need to know:

• Andy WILL be mean to you. Don’t ask him stupid questions—go to Luke B. with those.
• Sue will be one of your greatest resources while at Willow. Use her experience and knowledge. She will help you with “all of the things.” (A Sue-ism you’ll quickly pick up on)
• Maggie only remembers the interns she doesn’t jive with… so I’m hoping when I leave she forgets me.
• Mandy is one of the most fascinating, coolest ladies you will ever encounter. While you’re here, make sure you get in on a client meeting with her.
• If Keyon is still out of breath when he comes up the stairs, it’s because he’s a badass whose lung collapsed. Cut him some slack.
• Joe is just the janitor. So if he asks you to do something, you don’t actually have to do it.
• Luke W. has implemented daily high fives in the office, so be prepared.
• In the morning meeting, don’t EVER say “I am super busy today”—Everyone is busy!
• Don’t forget to check the beer stash every week. When 3:30 on Friday rolls around, people get a little antsy if they don’t have a beer.
• They will give you the freedom to buy whatever beer you like, but seeing as you’re probably a broke college kid like myself, I will encourage you to upgrade your beer selection. 312, Blue Moon and Fat Tire are safe choices.

As for the rest of the Willow crew and tricks of the trade… I’ll let you figure those out on your own. I don’t want to ruin all of the fun.

But in all seriousness, working at Willow has been a great experience. I have had a wide variety of internships and it wasn’t until my second semester, senior year, that I finally found the place I wanted to be. Working in an agency is like nothing else, and the relationships you make are ones that will last for a long time. I could not be happier with my experience here at Willow, and I’m sad to see it come to an end.

So now it’s your turn. You have pretty big shoes to fill because my co-intern Annie and I are super good at all of the things.
