We pride ourselves on having a culture of continuous improvement and growth. We always want to be better and learn something new! So we encourage our team to read (or listen!) to something new regularly. We like to mix it up too – between personal and professional development, girl power and leadership, fiction and non-fiction. And we’re pretty passionate when we find a good “read”. We even have a few clients who ask each time we meet, “hey, what are you all reading this month?”
So I thought, let’s wrap this up in a little bow and share what we’re currently reading. Here’s a few of our team’s fall favorites.
The 5 Second Rule by Mel Robbins
Whether it is helping her stop procrastinating, pushing her to make a decision, or forcing her to stop and think about the next step, this book’s tangible tips really work!! 5-4-3-2-1 – GO!
What a great read! Good insight on how to be a better team member and how defining your office culture plays a role in hiring! We handed this one out to attendees of one of our recent Better U’s. Love the focus on Hungry. Humble. Smart. team players.
A story of his family’s life moving from a dirt-poor Kentucky’s Appalachia region to Ohio in an attempt to escape the poverty of the area. This memoir is about the struggles, trials, and tribulations as they moved into their new middle-class life.
Power of Moments: Why Certain Experiences Have Extraordinary Impact by Chip Heath and Dan Heath
It’s all about understanding what elevates a moment into a powerful memory and how we can actually create and activate on these moments more intentionally. Erin’s enjoying this book because she LOVES when authentic moments create deeper connections, whether it’s within personal relationships, business, or the customer experience. So for someone who’s passionate about curating spaces for those moments to happen naturally, this is speaking her language!
Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts. by Brene Brown
Kim fell in love with Brene’s no-hold-back, drop the f-bomb style of leadership and growth coaching in her book, Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone. That book was pretty philosophical and deep. Her new book makes it tangible. It’s based on research, not just someone telling you how to be a better leader. She’s all about vulnerability – which is a huge component of the Willow culture. This book pushes leaders to choose courage over comfort, which isn’t an easy thing to do.
ME:
Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens
I needed a little brain break from the professional development and “self help” books I typically read, so I was excited when my new book club chose Where the Crawdads Sing. Beautifully written, this is a story of a young girl (Kya) that grows up practically on her own in the wild marshes outside Barkley Cove, a small coastal town in North Carolina. When local “golden boy” Chase Andrews is found dead, Kya is suspected of his murder. This story keeps you on your toes as it flashes from present day to 17 years earlier to tell the incredible, sometimes heartbreaking, story of Kya’s life.
